Haringey London Borough Council is the local authority for the London Borough of Haringey (LBH). It is a London borough council, one of 32 in the capital city.  LBH serves a local population of c270,000, responsible for a budget of £226.5 Million.  Alexandra House is one of a number of offices from where the Council’s employees administer its services.  LBH wanted to update the reception area to Alexandra House to provide a modern and welcoming feel to the workplace. We worked closely with the LBH team to gain a deep understanding of what they wanted and needed from their new reception.

Working with the Existing Space

The reception has the advantage of having a lot of access to natural light. With a floor to ceiling shopfront spanning the width of the exterior of the building. This allows for an abundance of light to pour in.  The existing wall and floor finishes has beautiful granite panels with a natural stone pattern finish.  We worked around this to combine the granite with more modern wall features, embracing the natural light.

Reception Area

We created one large reception and front-of-house space to be used by both clients and staff. This included a large reception desk formed in one piece, using Corian® solid surface.  The walls were complimented with natural wood slatted panels and a living wall. A new suspended ceiling and designer lighting created a spacious and light feel to the area.
